Our Work: Social Innovation at the Scale of Organization
To tackle complex global challenges, we need a system transformation. We aim to redistribute ownership and increase agency. We believe that social impact organizations have the power to be vehicles of this transformation that (a) prove the value of redesigned ownership models (b) showcase how these models can be operationalized (c) send impulses that cause ripple effects on national and transnational levels.
Outer transformation requires inner transformation. Without upgrading the root causes of systemic structural breakdowns — the values, principles, mental models and cultural norms — system transformation is impossible. We support in addressing the root causes in order to support the institutionalization of informal and heuristic worldviews so that our collaborators can transform systems and structures which maintain harmful norms and status quo.
What Transekt does on the organizational level:
To enable social impact organizations to achieve their vision and become vehicles in societal transformation we offer holistic programs that combine
- Knowledge transfer to close the narrative and information gaps — reducing the conflict between capital-interests and social innovation
- Process guidance to assist in the development of a customized organizational design — supporting unique-to-context and appropriate-to-fit approaches
- Cultural transformation to fuel and ground the change process in future-ready mental models and behavioral patterns
Knowledge Transfer
A core goal of our programs is to close the gap between capitalist business values and social and environmental impact, by both addressing and shifting perceptions of limited options to build thriving businesses, driving the expansion of possibilities from empirical examples and alternative narratives. To expose participants to a variety of organizational forms, legal structures, and organizational cultures we create the space for access to a global network of experts. Our participants get a broad range of experiences that can inspire them to adopt organizational designs and approaches which are appropriate for achieving their social and environmental goals. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to exchange with their peers and additional network actors who are implementing alternative forms of business to achieve socio-ecological impact.
What does that look like?
Virtual speaker series for knowledge transfer, inspiration, and exchange around transformative business forms, structures, and cultures
- Virtual training sessions on different organizational ownership models
- Interactive peer-learning format
- Result: overview and a better understanding of how redistributed ownership can be operationalized as well as what their potential is
Process Guidance
Social innovation requires navigating a large amount of complexity. Our program participants can benefit from direct consultation and systemic coaching to bridge the inspiration and ideation phase of their organizational designs and approaches to implementation. To better ensure the success of their pursuit of alternative approaches their groups will additionally have access to specialists they can contact for advisory services around specific business pursuits. Our program will achieve this by creating psychological safety to push boundaries and pursue solutions to big social and environmental problems.
What does that look like?
In-depth guidance and systemic process support in the development of strategy and structures to implement the participating group’s vision and mission – business form, business model, organizational structure, community participation processes, and organizational cultures
- Organizational, Platform, and Service Design
- 5-6 weeks with 1-2 days per week
- Individualized support
- Result: organizational models & operating models including new practices and principles
Cultural Transformation
Since social innovation requires breaking with outdated mental and behavioral patterns the cultivation of a supporting culture is needed. Program participants will be empowered to identify what a desired culture looks like for their stakeholders, strategize how to internalize, and implement cultural shifts so they can build the capacities which are required for change. To guide the cultural transformation needed, we offer a combination of an in-depth workshop series and supporting peer-to-peer learning formats. Our aim is to enable self-organization, co-creation, and co-ownership through the facilitation of future-ready mental models, tools, and behavioral patterns that direct and fuel the change processes needed. Addressing both inner and outer worlds: touching upon situated knowledge, systems of belief, cultural transitions, and organizational design. This includes skills areas such as metacognition, conflict management, resilience, inclusive mindset, and mobilization.
